National Sexual Health Strategy Consultation Document

You may be aware that the Scottish Executive recently launched a consultation on a draft National Sexual Health Strategy. The proposals are contained within draft strategy Enhancing Sexual Wellbeing in Scotland: A Sexual Health and Relationships Strategy, a report produced by an Expert Reference Group, chaired by Professor Phil Hanlon. The objective is to encourage a wide-ranging and inclusive consultation to help ensure that the final strategy is a fair reflection of the views of the people of Scotland.

A letter inviting responses to the consultation has been sent to over 2000 addresses including public sector, religious, medical, groups representing children, equality and ethnic, disability, women, older people and justice organisations. As part of that process of ensuring a wide audience I am writing to you to ask whether your School Board would like to comment.

The consultation has a closing date of 27 February 2004.

The electronic link to the Consultation package is at www.scotland.gov.uk/sexualhealthstrategy/ and if you e-mail Joe Logan at Scottish Executive Health Department at Joe.Logan@scotland.gsi.gov.uk he can provide a copy by post.

Copies of the summary report can be made available in a number of languages and other formats, including Braille, large print and audio tape.

Joe Logan
