2002 membership fees are now due! and we are starting a year which promises to be not only busy but extremely interesting not only for School Boards but for parents, pupils and teachers in general. I would like to bring the following to your attention:

1. SSBA Publications

Order forms are enclosed for the following publications:

NEW INDUCTION TRAINING COURSE FOR INDIVIDUAL BOARDS - £30 each

CD ROM/video – an induction course for School Boards and Headteachers ( this pack will include 20/30 minute course and information booklets for members)

 

2. National Education Debate

The Minister has announced that there is to be a national debate on the future provision of education in Scotland. The Government are interested in hearing your views on the following:

* How education will be delivered.

* When education should be delivered.

* What will be included in the curriculum.

* Where children should be receiving their education.

 

3. List of training

A list of courses booked to date appeared in the current edition of "Grapevine". An updated list will appear on the SSBA website.

 

4. SSBA Executive Board

I am pleased to be able to inform you that the following School Board members have been elected by the members within their areas to serve on the Executive Board for the next two years and will take up office on the 16 March 2002 –

6. Lay members of HM Inspection Teams

Have you ever considered becoming a lay member of school inspection teams? Details of what is involved in this very worthwhile job were enclosed with the letter to Boards for their information.

 

7. Sharing best practice

If you have a School Board which performs effectively then I would like to hear from you or your Headteacher. Why not share your ‘best practice’ – it could have a great effect on the current education debate.

 

8. Scottish Education Show

SSBA will be running two free seminars for School Board members and Headteachers at the National Education Show being held in the SECC Glasgow on 28 February, 1 and 2 March 2002.

We will also have a stand at the show – come and take part or simply say hello to Jennifer and myself.
