SSBA Conference & AGM 2001

To: All member School Boards, Directors of Education, Education Committee Chairpersons and MSPs.

1. SSBA’s Annual Conference

SSBA’s annual conference will be held in Aberdeen City Council Chambers (The Town House) on Saturday 3 February 2001. Speakers and topics will include:

A series of six workshops will also be run throughout the day:-

1. Special Educational Needs 4. Should we change the school year?
2. The Learning Game 5. Education for Citizenship
3. Implications of the Education 2000 Act 6. Industry working in the community

A booking form is enclosed and should be returned with payment no later than 31 January 2001. The cost of the conference is £10 per member delegate and £20 per non member delegate. This will include lunch.

2. Annual General Meeting

Business of the AGM

In accordance with sections 42 to 48 of the SSBA Articles of Association I have been instructed to give notice of the purpose of the AGM to be held in Aberdeen on Saturday 3 February 2001 at 15.00. The business of the Annual General meeting shall consist of the following –

  1. consideration of reports on the activities of the company during the period from the date of the preceding annual/extraordinary general meeting.
  2. Receiving the annual report and accounts
  3. Appointing/re-appointing the Accountants
  4. Receiving the company secretary’s determination under article 87 (outcome of SSBA Executive Board elections)
  5. Election of President
  6. Consideration of such items of business as have been submitted in writing by Member Boards prior to the date occurring five weeks before the annual general meeting. (30 December 2000)
  7. Such other matters as the directors may determine.
  1. Membership renewal – entitlement to attend AGM with voting rights
  2. In order to attend and vote at the AGM you are required to be a fully paid up member of SSBA. Group membership invoices have already been issued to those Education Authorities who take out this type of membership. Group membership costs £27 per Board and by taking out collective membership in this way, your authority will save an average of £10 per Board.

    Group members include the following Councils:

    Aberdeen City

    Argyll and Bute

    City of Glasgow Clackmannanshire

    Dumfries and Galloway

    East Dunbartonshire

    East Lothian

    Midlothian

    North Ayrshire

    North Lanarkshire

    Orkney Islands

    Perth and Kinross

    South Ayrshire

    Shetland Islands

    Stirling

    West Dunbartonshire

    Western Isles.

    If your school is in one of the areas in the above list you will automatically renew your SSBA membership on the 1st January 2001 when your membership fee will be paid for you by your Council.

    Ordinary memberships:

    Individual membership invoices for those other than Group members (as above) are enclosed with this letter. The invoice requires to be paid to allow you to attend and vote at the AGM and also to allow you to make any resolution for consideration at the AGM. If you are passing the invoice to your local authority to pay please let us know as this often takes several months for them to process.

  3. Resolutions

Any proposed resolutions (e.g. changes to the Articles) should be made in writing to the SSBA no later than 30 December 2000, five weeks before the AGM as is the requirement laid out in the Articles of Association.
